E' proprio in questi anni che perde suo padre a causa di un male ormai incurabile. Da allora decise di immergersi nella scrittura. Fantastic Exercises

This book is basically a few volumes of drills for right and left hand technique (101 drills to be exact). Ricardo has gone through and written them out so as to provide the best description of what you are to focus on and accomplish during each exercise. He even has workout routines for the very beginner to the most advanced guitar player. So that's pretty much it; It's a workout book for classical guitar players. And I'll tell you, I've been playing guitar for about 12 years and teaching for 3; I just picked up the classical guitar and in a few weeks I feel that I have a good tone and a solid understanding of the basic right and left hand techniques that are to be used while playing. Of course if you're serious you'll be studying with someone in the know but chances are, if you're reading this right now you're interested in playing well. Pick up the book and try a few things from it... you'll be playing for hours!

One of the best technique books out there

I use this book every day when I practice and I'm certain I wouldn't be the player I am today without it. It covers just about every technique that guitarists need to master in order to have a sweeping command. Some of the demands Ricardo imposes on the player are somewhat ridiculous (like playing really fast arpeggio patters all rest stroke as well as free stroke) but you can customize the exercises and routines that he lays out into something that works for you. There are no diagrams in this book and I applaud that decision as well because what works for him may not work for the rest of us. Also, some have criticized this book for pushing players to the boundaries of their technique too quickly. All this being said, I would recommend using this book with a teacher so that you can be paced appropriately and you can figure out mechanics that work for YOUR hands and YOUR body. Once you figure those things out, these 101 exercises from open strings to gymnastic stretching exercises and blistering scales will give you a fantastic arena to apply your mechanics to.

Excellent book

Very detailed exercises from the most basic to advanced. Not a how-to book but a very complete supplement. I like that each exercise is accompanied by a list of goals and a practice approach to help you focus for that exercise. The work-out plans ensure that your practice times throughout the week are well balanced, but to do them as prescribed would be very time consuming.

I think a good instructor could very effectively apply these exercises to improve or correct techniques as a student needed.

Very enjoyable read.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review

Some Spoilers

Let me start by saying that I really enjoyed this book. The pace was nice and it didn't leave any plot holes or gaps that left me scratching my head.
This story takes place in London 1814 during the end of Napoleon's reign. We meet Abigail the Countess of Rathbourne who has been searching for her husband for 2 years after he mysteriously disappears a couple of weeks after their wedding. We meet her on a dark road after midnight while she is returning home after a failed rendezvous with a stranger who claims to have information pertaining to her husband. They happen upon a stranger who is unconscious and bleeding. They get him in her carriage and take him to her home where they realize that he suffers from amnesia. After a few days he just disappears without so much as a "By your leave". From there the story really takes off and we meet a whole slew of people who are either friend or foe. Abigail is lead on journey of spies and allegiance as she delves deeper into the mystery of who her husband really was. She has to go back into society and deal with the "TON", all of who scorned her and spread horrible gossip about why her husband left.
I was shocked how this story turned out but it was worth the read and I would definitely read more by this author

A fast moving Regency love story with all sorts of intrigue; French and English, many bad people, many good people and the Ton is as obnoxious as ever. Easy read, the clothing descriptions were integral to the story, (nice writing Ms. Salter, it is one of my biggest peeves- stopping the story to have two pages of dress descriptions! You have done one of the best integration's of story and the dress descriptions I have read in many a year!) I was never frustrated nor bored.

I loved the good people and was happy to see such delicious ends for the villains!

I hope to find more of your work, but I couldn't , so I urge you to continue using your talent, as I know you will continue to have devoted readers. And I count myself one of them.

An Excellent, Thoughtful Book

In The End of Captivity? A Primate’s Reflection on Zoos, Conservation, and Christian Ethics, York explores the uniquely human phenomenon of keeping other animals captive, not only in zoos and sanctuaries, but in labs, farms, and our homes. Since it is quite impossible for animals to live completely free of humans, how do we Christians talk about and into the peaceable kingdom promised in the Scriptures? How does captivity of animals in its various forms serve their end, the chief purpose of which is to glorify God? And if we agree that creation is good, how do we best embody that claim? York’s writing is thoughtful and funny, humble and well-informed. Committed to advocating well for all animals, York builds a big tent and encourages everyone who wants to do a little better by our animal brethren to come on in and have a chat. It’s a must-read for any Christian serious about protecting the planet and its many inhabitants.

A Thoughtful and Engaging Book

Tripp York thoughtfully reviews the many ways that humans hold nonhumans captive, and then he reflects on how these arrangements relate to Christian ethics. York focuses much of his attention on zoos and sanctuaries, and he notes that some do a much better job than others at caring for animals. They also differ widely in their commitment to conservation. Consequently, he objects to sweeping arguments for or against these institutions made by both animal advocates and zoo proponents.

Virtually all land animals are captive in a sense. Even “wild” animals have restricted ranges, and they exceed their human-defined boundaries at their great peril. Not all domesticated captive animals are treated badly, and many companion animals – though held captive – are treated like members of the family.

York notes that more factory farmed animals are killed in the United States each hour than are held in zoos and sanctuaries throughout the world. He rightly condemns factory farms’ abysmal treatment of animals. Initially, he found the utilitarian arguments of Peter Singer compelling, but over time he has found that the Judeo-Christian tradition presents a powerful case against contemporary mistreatment of animals. His thinking has led to some new and refreshing ways to defend nonhumans against mistreatment. I encourage Christian animal advocates to read this book.

Step right up for the greatest show on earth (without the performing animals of course).

Tripp York is becoming one of the more important voices regarding the relationship between humans and other animals. His earlier work in A Faith Embracing All Creatures and its follow up A Faith Encompassing All Creation set York up nicely for this monograph. Of course it also doesn’t hurt that he is married to a biologist and has spent much of his time in recent years at zoos other places where human animals hold other animals captive. York, in his typical fashion, interweaves personal experience, pop culture references, astute criticism, and learned reflection. And being the good Mennonite he is he even suggests that zoos might be a “third way” as it were between prison and salvific ark (18). Though I note it in jest, there is something important about this willingness to nuance the discussion because in that willingness to move into the grey areas we might begin to understand the place of animals in the world, and our place in relation to the rest of creation, and especially with the Creator.

York takes readers through the bible from Genesis to Revelation. If we don’t find an ezer, a companion and helper, in the animal kingdom, then what is their purpose and how are we to relate to them? How should we understand the violence of nature when we are promised that in the eschaton that the wolf will lie down with the lamb instead of tearing it to shreds? What have St. Francis and Barnum & Bailey to do with one another? If you are concerned about Jesus, or about animals, or both then this book is worth your time.

A Mismatched but Effective Discussion

This 4 views book is a lively, largely helpful discussion between interlocutors of varying ability championing positions of varying credibility. Since I found a distribution of skill and helpfulness in the essays and discussions, the easiest way to approach this is to review each of the authors separately.

Dr Hoyt is a dispensational seperationalist whose eschatology leads him to a position that Christians should be personally against violence but should not try to discourage their country's war effort and can even join it in a non-combatant role. The weakest position also happened to get the weakest defender. Dr Hoyt is a sincere old time Bible preacher with obvious passion for the things of God and the mission of the church...but he is not a skilled debater or a convincing author and is generally outmatched throughout the discussion. Augsburger briefly summarized the position in order to distinguish his from it and gave it a better treatment in 2 paragraphs.

Dr Augsburger is a much more formidable presence (perhaps the most formidable presence of the four) as the voice of pacifism and makes a stirring case for active non-violent intervention after the style of the cross and Dr King. I could not help wanting him to be right. And regardless of if he is, he does his job in championing the strict Sermon on the Mount ethic which any Christian has to come to terms with.

Dr Holmes, in his defense of the just war position, made the best use of the format. He was gracious but pointed in his comments. He stayed on message, effectively conveying a concise and immanently defendable thesis before we even got to his chapter. His defense of the just was accompanied by an appropriate denunciation of war and all its evils and a competent ethical stance of selecting a lesser evil. There is an issue of uncertainty of outcomes (e.g. will a `lesser evil' actually produce less evil) that was not fully dealt with, but Holmes message was coherent and well presented.

Dr Brown was an able proponent for a difficult position (crusade/preventative war) but was also a bit aggressive and condescending. He skillfully deconstructed his co-authors eschatologies to undermine their positions, which simultaneously provided a helpful service and left me unsettled. It was his flirtation with ad hominim calling Dr Augsburger dangerous and delusional that disappointed me the most. At the heart of his argument seems to be the idea that if defensive action is justified, preemptive action is justified on precisely the same criteria. It was more successful than I thought it had a chance of being. However, while he dealt briefly with the problem of imperfect future knowledge (how does one know that preemptive attack is necessary) he did not overcome the difficulties it poses for the equating of preemptive militarism with the reluctant acceptance of the evils of a just war. In the end Dr Brown did all right with a fundamentally flawed position

It also should be noted that it was written in `81 and the aftermath of Vietnam weighs heavily on the discussion. On the whole though, it is a worthwhile and timely book even 25+ years later.

A good start for a Christian engaging this issue

Each of the four authors writes an essay defending his position, and then the other three respond, making for an interesting dialogue.
All four make compelling cases, partly because the New Testament does not directly address the issue of what a Christian or Christian community's response to war should be. The history of the Christian church will show how very differently popes, rulers, and Protestant communities viewed involvement in war.
Augsburger makes a compelling case for pacifism. What is attractive about pacifism is that it so brilliantly proclaims to the world a different way, the Way of Christ Himself who eschewed violence against those who mistreated him. The community then places its faith only in God for its protection. This position thus is naturally connected with the refusal to be politically involved, which it has historically accompanied in the Mennonite and other pacifist communites.
Hoyt says Christians can serve their country, but only in non-combat roles, as the Christian is bound not to perpetrate violence to another human. I must admit I was strongly attracted to this - and I'm sure this probably has reflected the views of many conscientious Christians once drafted. But this breaks down, because it sets up a double standard.
Holmes presents the classical doctrine of "just war". The problem with this is that a "just war" is hard to come by. Acting completely in accordance with it requires that no military forces attack territory or citizens belonging to the aggressor -- only retaking territory the enemy has taken -- thus being purely defensive. Reality tends to make conducting a "just war" impractical and unwise -- the Allies would have stopped at Germany's borders in World War II.
Brown defends the ideas of the "crusade" and the "preventive strike". This may sound offensive and did to me, but Brown is capable. But the problem lies in the Christian's justification of the particular crusade or strike. And, of course, how is this different from how the world conducts its warfare?
There are two fundametal realities that we confront as Christians facing war: One reality is that there are unscrupulous, evil, and aggressive rulers who need to be checked. The other is that war is an incredible evil and can do nothing but wreck the conscience -- which is especially troubling for the obedient Christian who knows that human life is made in the image of God. So how do we trust and obey God in the midst of war? The state "bears the sword"; can a Christian thus be part of such a state? If so, how should the state bear it?
I continue to struggle with the answers, but heartily recommend this to someone needing a beginning point on this.

KAWS is a New York-based artist who has blurred the boundaries between street art, design and high art in his collaborations with Supreme, Original Fake, and Comme des Garcons, and in his exhibitions at galleries worldwide.

The Supreme book - a decent keepsake

You've probably read reviews about the book already. It was as hyped a Supreme release as their own box logo tees, and the book doesn't disappoint. However, with its not-as-comprehensive product back catalog as was anticipated, it's not going to be an interesting "read" (it's mostly photos, mind) after the first few leaf-throughs. You can find a lot of the images online (from blogs, previous Supreme books and calendars, press releases), but I guess having them all in one book is worth the 30-some-odd dollars. The best part to me were the preface and the extensive Jebbia interview. These were things never before seen/read, and they gave a good insight into the brand. PS. should have come with a box logo sticker =)

Easier on the back

At age 74 tried this out and hit a number of outstanding golf shots.Lot of Moe Norman in this .Creating more lag helps as you get older because it's difficult to create a long swing without back issues.Won the long drive for people over 70 at our clubs men's night,longer than a 59 year old 4 hcp..All this on first try ..

The instructions are conveyed in an easy, understandable fashion. For a hitter of the golf ball, the instructions provide one swing technique to produce beneficial results....good for an inflexible, senior. What is even better, the authors responded with a quick insightful response to my email concerning additional swing thoughts for the downswing.....a nice, thoughtful touch.

If you do not have lots of flexibility, this could help your swing

The "economical" swing is just that -- don't turn so much with shoulders and hips -- and hold the lags through impact to compress the ball.

Pretty basic stuff.

If you are not flexible and cannot make a bigger turn for your backswing, you may find the infor,action worthwhile.
