Following the success of previous triennial meetings, the ICOM-CC Metals Working Group again organized a conference to discuss progress on the conservation of metals. Held in Figanires-Draguignan, France in May 1998, over 70 papers were presented at the meeting. They reported on a wide range of techniques and materials, objects and locations.

William Mourey is head of the Conservation, Restoration and Research Laboratory at the Archaeological Research Centre of CNRS and director of the Centre Archeologique du Var, Draguignan, France.
Luc Robbiola is a scientist at the Laboratory of Structural Metallurgy (CNRS-CECM) and is head of the Electron Microscopy Unit at the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Chimie, Paris, France.
